This course includes the Green Belt Foundation programme as its first module and goes on to cover the majority of statistical tools needed for DMAIC projects (Stats 1 and Stats 2). The course is very 'hands on' with practical activities throughout the programme. This course includes comprehensive training and use of the statistical software package MINITAB Release 14 or 15.

The course has proved to be equally relevant to manufacturing and service/transactional environments. The mix of delegates on the training is one of the attractions of attending this open programme.

Each participant receives a comprehensive delegate pack including Catalyst's Lean Six Sigma Improvement Toolbook, Statistical Tool guides, Worksheets, Project examples and support materials for use in Minitab.

Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt – Foundation (4 days)
The course includes practical training on the structure of and tools used in Lean Six Sigma projects. Using the DMAIC process, delegates 'walk through' the project process. Through a combination of lecture, practical exercises, other media and shared experiences, delegates will become familiar with the steps in Lean Six Sigma DMAIC projects. This course has proved to be equally relevant to manufacturing and service/transactional environments. Each participant receives a comprehensive delegate pack including a copy of Catalyst's Lean Six Sigma Improvement Journey toolbook.

Curriculum Outline
This course is an accelerated foundation course concentrating on the Lean Six Sigma methodology. Delegates explore the Lean Six Sigma DMAIC Project Structure. Elements of each phase which are covered in the course include:

Define Phase

  • Project Charter
  • Voice of the Customer and Critical to Quality Requirements
  • SIPOC
  • Stakeholder Analysis
  • Scoping Projects and team building

Measure Phase

  • Process Stapling
  • Process Mapping to include Deployment Flow Charts and Value Stream Mapping
  • Output (Y) and Input (X) Measures
  • Data collection
  • Introduction to sampling techniques
  • Variation
  • Statistical Process Control and Process Capability

Analyse Phase

  • Fishbone Diagrams
  • Root Cause Analysis
  • Basic graphical analysis
  • Waste (in processes)
  • Process Flow
  • Overview of data analysis techniques

Improve Phase

  • Spaghetti Diagrams
  • SMED
  • 5S
  • Process Leveling and Sequencing
  • Creative Thinking
  • N/3
  • Paired Comparisons
  • Priority Matrices
  • Project pilots
  • Tree and Arrow Diagrams
  • FMEA
  • Poke Yoka

Control Phase

  • Process Control and Process Management
  • SPC and Capability
  • Standardisation
  • Response Plans and Storyboards

A number of individual and team exercises are used to reinforce the concepts and encourage use of the tools. This course provides sufficient background for delegates to begin refining, in detail, their own projects and start the DMAIC approach.

Statistics 1 and 2 (3 days + 3 days)

Statistics 1 topics include:

  • Introduction to MINITAB™ Statistical Software
  • Normality (Central Limit Theorem, P-values, Transforming Data)
  • Sampling (Random and Process Sampling, Determining Sample Sizes, Selecting Samples)
  • Measurement System Analysis (Data Types, Gauge R&R, Attribute Agreement Analysis)
  • Introduction to Hypothesis Tests (Z- and t-tests)

Statistics 2 topics include:

  • Hypothesis Tests (Analysis of Variance and Chi-Square Tests)
  • Regression (Simple, Multiple, Binary Logistic)
  • Control Charts (Continuous and Attribute Data Charts)
  • Process Sigma (Short and Long-Term Sigma, Determining Process Shift, Improvement Strategies)
  • Introduction to Designed Experiments (Full and Fractional Factorial Designs)
